A new Anglicare development mixing retirement living with affordable housing has welcomed its first resident in Minto, in Sydney’s southwest.

The $130.5 million Minto Gardens complex (pictured) – which contains 110 retirement units and 110 affordable housing apartments, plus residential care facility and amenities including community hub, health consulting suites, BBQ area, café, hairdresser, dog park, and playground – is built across a 5.88-hectare former industrial site amid native bushland.

Its first resident, Jenny Andrew (pictured right), watched the construction of the village from her backyard and says she was drawn in by the “care and friendliness” on offer.

“Being on your own, you sometimes don’t feel that safe living by yourself.

“I would recommend this to anyone. I think it’s a great community, and you feel protected and safe and secure,” she said.

Miriam Williams, Minto Gardens Retirement Living Manager, said it was “a joy” to welcome Jenny as the village’s first resident.

“The many months of preparation by the team, during COVID-19 lockdown and other challenges have only been the beginning of the journey.

“It’s from this day forward that the real work and reward begins, as we welcome people into the village to start the next stage of their journey and be part of building a community,” she said.

Minto Gardens is slated for a formal opening before the end of the year.
