Hunter Valley golf clubs struggle to stay open despite seniors’ living developments

1 min read

As we reported here last week, the Shortland Waters Golf Club in Newcastle has gone into administration despite village operator Aveo’s 300-unit retirement village saving the Club from closing two years ago.

Now the Newcastle Herald has revealed two more clubs are in strife. The Merewether golf club is holding a member vote next month on a seniors’ living project after being sold to the Belmont Golf Club for $4.8 million last year.

Cessnock Golf Club is also looking for a new buyer after going into voluntary administration with around $11 million in debts in April.
