Sydney Not For Profit gets the go-ahead for vertical village after resident holdout win

1 min read

As we reported here in June last year, the Vasey Housing Association N.S.W. had been forced to take two male residents to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal (NCAT) after they refused to accept an offer to relocate them from their ‘Parkview’ village at Waitara on Sydney’s Upper North Shore.

It is understood they were seeking a substantial cash payout which Vasey declined (see our earlier story).

NCAT ruled in favour of Vasey on 10 November and the two residents have now accepted Vasey’s original offer to be relocated to their Epping village by 28 February 2018.

The Not For Profit wanted to replace the ageing 55-unit village with a 12-storey, 117-unit village – a plan that was approved by the Sydney North Planning Panel on 29 November.

Vasey tells us that while the impact on them in financial cost and time wasted has been disappointing, they are pleased that they can now move on and modernise their housing stock to meet the needs of future retirees, especially those with a past defence connection.

The existing village will now be demolished in March, with construction on the new village to start later this year.
