VIC: Geelong residents force council meeting on Ryman’s planned $100M village

1 min read

As we reported here, the NZ listed operator plans to build independent living apartments and townhouses, assisted living apartments and an aged care centre on 3.2ha at Highton, 6km from the Geelong CBD, but over 60 submissions were lodged against the proposal.

According to the Geelong Advertiser, over a dozen residents presented complaints about the height and bulk of the development and impact on the area’s character, traffic and parking at a recent council meeting.

A panel of councillors will now meet on 18 December to decide on the project. If approved, it will be Ryman’s fifth village to be approved in Victoria.

The council’s planning committee did turn down an application by Japara for a $25 million, three-storey aged care development in August however.
