Just 7,933 of the 10,493 residential aged care places were taken up in the latest round of offers, reflecting again the inability of providors to afford building new beds under current funding. At the same time the sector sought 24,000 community care places but received only 1,724. The Government still has not responded to the Productivity Commission report and its user pays recommendation.
