Finance group pushes ahead with plans to build aged care facility on century-old Brisbane homestead

Finance group Balmain is pushing ahead with plans to build an aged care facility on the site of Goldicott House, a heritage listed colonial homestead in Brisbane’s west.

The Courier Mail reports Balmain is currently circulating a prospectus in the investment community for a loan secured on the Toowong site. The group is planning to build a 150-bed aged care facility and 150 independent living units.

“The borrower has engaged experienced town planners to assist with the planning and development process,” the document reads.

“The council is generally supportive of a residential aged care development at the site.”

This isn’t the first time the home, which has stood since 1885 and was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register in 1999, has attracted controversy.

As we reported here, in July 2018, Council officers rejected a development application from Pikos Group after a year-long fight with locals who made 122 submissions and a petition with over 2,000 signatures against the development.

The prospectus says the property is currently being utilised for office purposes.
