Highgate Developments’ $70 million Sunshine Coast land lease community application hits hurdle after locals fight the development

1 min read

Some local residents are fighting a $70 million development application by Highgate Developments, who have an eye towards building a land lease community at Highworth, 20km west of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Highgate directors Andrew and Jo Pitcher lodged the generic DA for the 275-home development with the Sunshine Coast Council in November of 2020, which we reported on here.

Since then, some local residents living near the proposed development site have contacted councillor David Law to dispute the application, The Courier Mail reported.

Highgate Developments already have two residential estates under construction on the Sunshine Coast, in Mooloolah Valley and Nambour Heights, with Grove Retirement being their first retirement specific estate in the region.

If approved the development will house two- and three-bedroom homes with a range of community facilities including tennis courts, a bowls green, a small golf centre and RV and caravan parking.

The application is currently under assessment by Council and will be opened for public viewing once that process is completed.
