Port Douglas welcomes retirement village as boon for the economy

1 min read

The Douglas Shire Council approved the 1.745-hectare development application from Port Pacific Developments in December.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said the new gated retirement village was perfect for the community and it would inject welcome money into the local economy.

“We love to see this type of investment and confidence that helps bring people to our region, stimulate our economy and build Douglas up in the post-COVID era,” Mayor Kerr said.

The 41 house-sites, located between two resorts, will vary in size from 200m2 to 350m2 with 24 one-bedroom residences and 18 two-bedroom homes.

Among the new development’s features will be a 25-metre lap pool, a lawn bowls green, billiards room, cinema and gym and a dedicated on-site management team.
