WA wedding venue to be redeveloped as retirement village

1 min read

Bridgeleigh Reception Centre will see new life as a retirement village, after the City of Wanneroo tied the knot on the redevelopment application last week.

The City’s officers had initially recommended refusal as the project would be undertaken before the finalisation of the East Wanneroo District Structure Plan.

Despite this, councillors voted unanimously in support of redeveloping the 4ha Mary Street site. Wanneroo Times reports landowners will enter a voluntary, binding agreement with the City to contribute $1.6 million for future infrastructure, including a $586,000 cash payment, and providing public open space.

Bridgeleigh part-owner and manager Michael Dean hopes the redevelopment will “breath new life” into the site that has hosted more than 7,000 weddings.

“It’s been coming apparent over recent years that single purpose reception centres are no longer viable,” he said.

“Our vision is to create a sustainable future for this site.”
