Work comes to a halt on the building of Uniting’s retirement village in Yamba, NSW

1 min read

For the past two weeks there has been no work on the Not for Profit’s new retirement village being built on the Far North Coast of NSW.

GCB Constructions’ financial concerns remain after subcontractors said they haven’t been paid and many have removed their tools and supplies from GCB sites, including Uniting Yamba.

“Uniting has been working closely with GCB Constructions across the term of the site construction to support them through these challenging times and ensure the completion of Uniting Yamba,” said Simon Furness, Uniting Director of Property and Housing.

“The company has reached practical completion of all 34 (two-bedroom) villas on the site with some final touches currently being put on some of these dwellings.

“At present GCB Constructions is not on site and we continue to be in regular contact with them to work through contractual obligations as soon as possible so that we can deliver the remaining elements of the contract. This includes 50 (one-, two- and three-bedroom) apartments and a Clubhouse.

“Uniting has not been informed that GCB Constructions has gone into administration.”
